The tastiest week of the year

We’ve come a long way, the roads have been rough; but now, it’s time to eat. Every bite has a story and it’s only fair that you treat yourself to a bite of history. We owe a lot to the conquistadores, ruddy sailors bound for spice and glory, ancient salt miners, and the various idiot savants that combined exotic ingredients into what we call, “yummy food” today. If you want to see how far we’ve come, check out the illest poems ever written, “The Iliad.” Homer talks about some of the “feasts” those Kings had. Not much to write home about. Well, it was back then. Today, our culinary experience has turned from rudimentary to levels of complexity only equaled by…um, really cool and sophisticated stuff with blinking lights.

Have you ever heard the song, “Disorganized Fun,” by Ronald Jenkees? It’s the musical equivalent of what’s supposed to happen to your taste buds at a good restaurant. If you’re looking for a good time and a reason to be proud of what we, as human beings, have achieved, go out and eat. Remember, tomatoes and potatoes came from the area that is now Peru, not Europe, basil is a gift from India and pizza Margarita, is named after Queen Margherita of Savoy (and the tomato, mozzarella and basil represent the Italian flag).

This rotund spaceship has spent hundreds of millions of years developing ingredients for our culinary delight. Our little area of this earth has them all at your disposal and this September, you can sample many of these delights right here in the Valley during the tastiest week of the year, Silicon Valley Restaurant Week.
